Scammers use various platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Google, and Threads to post fake investment ads under the names of stock market celebrities or financial experts. They may also use dating websites or apps to pretend to be friends and claim to have endorsement deals with trading platforms that pay endorsement fees, luring victims with promises of offline meetings or other special services.
Once a victim takes the bait, the scammers introduce other accomplices posing as “customer service reps, teachers, or assistants” who add the victim on LINE or invite them to join LINE investment groups. They provide fake investment websites or apps for the victim to register, download, install, and operate. Every evening, a supposed investment advisor conducts stock market analysis and teaching sessions in the LINE group, while fake participants (accomplices) regularly post about profits and praise each other.
At first, the victim’s account shows profits (which are actually controlled by the scammers behind the scenes) to entice them to invest larger sums. Sometimes small withdrawals of profits are allowed, but the funds actually come from other victims’ deposits, which may cause your bank account to be flagged.
When victims try to withdraw their earnings, scammers delay with various excuses (such as requiring a security deposit, abnormal IP address, insufficient trading volume, etc.) or directly freeze the account and cut off contact. This is the #NoWithdrawal scam.
