\”I just wanted to buy a jacket—how did I end up a criminal suspect?\” A woman surnamed Lin recently saw a popular advertisement for a \”Baishatun Jacket\” on Facebook. After placing an order, she fell straight into a series of traps!
The scammers first used excuses like \”broken links\” and \”real-name verification\” to lure her into adding a fake bank customer service account on LINE. Claiming they needed to \”fix an order error,\” they cheated her out of $20,000. Not stopping there, they further deceived Ms. Lin into mailing out her ATM card and revealing her password under the guise of processing a \”refund.\”
Ms. Lin waited for five days, but instead of a refund, her card was gone for good! That is when she realized she hadn\’t just lost money—her account was being used as a \”mule account\” for criminal activity.
Police Reminder: Online shopping will NEVER require you to \”mail a physical card\” or \”perform an order cancellation\” through an ATM or banking app.
Remember: Sending your card = Handing over a tool for crime! If you see a suspicious link, dial 165 first. Don\’t let your ATM card go on a one-way trip to a criminal syndicate!
